Understanding cap construction options
The cap is the part of the hair replacement that the hair is attached to. This page shows common hair attachment methods, which you will encounter in the later stages of choosing your hair replacement. We can advise on the best kind for you, your scalp, and your budget.
Note that many wigs are made for fashion are of low quality and poor design, and are inappropriate for medical or genetic hair loss.

Monofilament hand-made wig
Monofilament wigs are the most sought-after wigs for all kinds of hair loss, due to their natural look.
Monofilament is the type of material that hair is knotted onto. It is thin, gauze-like, nearly transparent and very soft to the touch. The hair is hand-knotted to this material, one hair at a time.
Monofilament caps are:
- very natural looking - hair looks like it is growing straight from your scalp
- very comfortable
- versatile - you can part the hair in any direction and it looks like natural hair growth anywhere you parted.

Monofilament top, wefted at back and sides
This cap has a top 100% hand tied monofilament. The top monofilament lets you part your hair anywhere and have a natural look. The sides and back are wefted to keep you cool. Wefting is when the hair is sewn rather than hand-knotted.

Monofilament parting on wefted wig
The parting is in a fixed location and looks extremely natural. The rest of the cap is wefted.
The smaller the monofilament area, the more affordable the wig will be.

Fully wefted cap
Wefted cap wigs are the most affordable, and are therefore also very popular.
These are open-wefted at the top, sides and back. The hair is machine-sewn to ribbons which are joined to the cap. They are lightweight, cool and comfortable.
These wigs are pre-styled and easy care.

Lace front cap
Lace front caps are extremely popular due to their amazingly natural-looking hairline.
Hair at the forehead and around the fringe is hand-tied to a special cap attachment. The fringe can be styled in many different ways.
A lace front can be combined with a monofilament top and a hand tied back for the most natural looking hair replacement you can get.
Lace is fragile and therefore requires gentle care.
Due to the hand tied element to create this type of wig, lace fronts are typically the most expensive type of cap construction. However, they also look the most natural.

100% hand-made
Hair is woven by hand onto a fine tulle base. The cap is comfortable and feels light as a feather.
Because these wigs are painstakingly hand-made, they tend to be expensive.
